This species is native to La Pampa, and its ability to adapt to a changing environment has helped it not only to survive but also to increase in numbers. Here at Pichu-Có pumas are present year round, but quantities vary according to the time of year. They are most plentiful in late winter and early spring, when the young of their prey are born. Hunter and guide wait for the puma from late afternoon until nightfall in a blind placed near a watering hole. Live bait (lambs, goats) is also used to attract them. They are often seen in the early morning during the rut season while stalking deer. However, pumas are difficult to find and it is not possible to guarantee that every hunter will obtain one. If a client is especially interested in this species, arrangements can be made to visit other farms in the area to increase his chances of finding a puma. But a true puma hunt cannot be guaranteed. |
